fourteenth-century historical manuscripts
Historical works presented their information in a variety of ways.
Beinecke MS 86 is a fragment of a Brut chronicle from the end of the fourteenth century or the beginning of the fifteenth. The dense text block was copied in a spiky Anglicana book hand with blue initials and red penwork.
Beinecke MS 956, a genealogy of the kings of England from William the Conqueror to Edward II, was written sometime after 1307, and the text marshals its genealogical information using diagrams of family trees, portraits of the kings, and carefully laid out Latin poetry.
